Happy Chinese New Year

photo[8] photo[13] photo[12] photo[11] photo[10]Yes, Christmas was only six weeks ago but it’s Chinese New Year time now!  It’s a great time of year when people gather again and celebrate family.  Sort of Thanksgiving with fish, noodles and dumplings.   Many people go away but we decided to stay in the city this year and so far lovin’ it.  Late mornings in pjs, movie marathons and daily walks with the dog to Stanley Village for coffee and hang out.  It’s a great time just to take it easy and smell the flowers literally.   The Chinese New Year traditionally was to honor ancestors and their gods but it is also referred to as the Spring Festival.  Families are to thoroughly clean their homes to sweep away bad luck and to bring in good fortune.   Homes are brightly decorated with red paper cut-outs and flowers.   And who am I not to join in the festivities. People will fill their homes with tangerine plants, pussy willows, narcissus, orchids and peach/apricot blossoms.

Of course we stopped by the local flower shop and picked up a few spring types plants for our home too….
